There is so much to see and discover in our parks and countryside, including ancient woodlands, wetlands, canals and green spaces, which makes for a great family day out.
You can explore many of these natural features in Wigan's Greenheart, areas include:
- Haigh Woodland Park – Stroll through 250 acres of park and woodland, and see magnificent views across the Douglas Valley to the Welsh Hills
- Pennington Flash – Paths and trails surrounding the lake enable visitors to enjoy rare birds and breath-taking scenery
- Amberswood and Low Hall – An excellent site for some outdoor exercise, with a rich habitat of woodlands, wildflower meadows, grasslands and wetlands.
Just outside of the Greenheart area is the nature reserve and coarse fishery Orrell Water Park, surrounded by picturesque woodland. It's open all year round.
