If you're older or have a disability, there are a number of options that might help you get out and about and access the places you want to visit.

Travel vouchers

Discounted travel vouchers for Greater Manchester are available to those who are not able to use ordinary buses due to serious mobility problems, or are registered blind. They can be used to pay for:

  • Taxis
  • Travel on door-to-door minibus services (Ring and Ride)
  • Cheap travel on buses and trains.

Motability scheme

The Motability scheme was established to provide disabled people with safe, reliable and affordable cars, powered wheelchairs or scooters.

Minibus and group transport

Ring and Ride is a door-to-door minibus service.

Blue Badge parking permit

The Blue Badge scheme allows people with disabilities to park legally, close to places they need to visit such as shops and public buildings.

Access to facilities

AccessAble

If you want to plan ahead, the AccessAble (external link) website provides information about easy access to a whole range of venues throughout the country.

The information has been collected by visiting venues in person with the full involvement of local disabled people.

RADAR National Key Scheme

The RADAR National Key Scheme (NKS) allows disabled people to access around 7,000 locked public toilets around the country. Facilities can be found in shopping centres, country parks, railway and bus stations, bars, motorway service areas and sports venues.

You can buy a RADAR key at your local pharmacy or find them in the medicine aisle at most UK supermarkets.
