Keeping fit and healthy is an important part of your wellbeing. Sport and fitness activities in our leisure centres around the borough can help you regardless of your age or ability.

You can join the gym, go for a swim, take a weekly fitness class and more!

Video tours of leisure facilities

Our virtual video tours can help reassure people, particularly those with autism, dementia, anxiety or physical disabilities, so they are familiar with their surroundings before they arrive.


If you are already into sport take a look at what is available:

If it’s been a while since you’ve done any sport go along to one of the back to sport sessions which offer basic to advanced sessions to get you back into tennis badminton, football, netball, basketball and swimming.

Getting outdoors

For some free exercise get out and about in our beautiful countryside. Try:

  • Walking - Series of maps for short walks
  • Jogging (external link) - Timetable of jogging sessions (from brisk walking to interval training drills)
  • Cycling - Women and adult cycling sessions for those who haven't cycled for a while
  • Park workouts (external link) - Free sessions at Pennington Hall park in Leigh and Mesnes park in Wigan.
