Thermocill is an innovative window board made from recycled materials designed to contribute to carbon reduction targets by keeping rooms warmer for longer, at lower cost.
The pioneering product, set to transform the housing sector, reduces energy use without using any energy itself, positively impacting the environment, the householder and the fabric of the property.
Homes that use Thermocill warm up 19% quicker and receive energy bills that are 8% lower - addressing the business’s belief that a warm home is a fundamental human right.
Why it's important
Heating homes accounts for 9.7% of the UK carbon footprint, the single biggest national source of carbon emissions before car fuel, the production of electricity, construction, agriculture and air travel.
Thermocill believes decarbonising the home energy sector needs to be a priority to fight climate change - and that it has a major role to play in speeding up the home decarbonising process at an affordable cost for homeowners and home providers.
How Thermocill works
The device, which is passive and easy to retrofit, is installed beneath any windowsill located above a radiator and designed to create a wall of warm air in front of the window.
The wall of warm air created by the Thermocill reduces both the amount of cold air entering the house and the amount of warm air leaking out via the windows, warming up a room 19% quicker.
Reducing condensation and moisture on windows means less damp and improved air quality, safeguarding the health of residents and protecting the condition of a property for longer.
The green credentials do not stop there, however. Thermocill is currently manufactured from 100% nylon waste and recently became the very first UK product to trial bio-plastic carbon. The successful trial resulted in a partnership with Unyte Hemp to further explore the possibility of manufacturing the product using hemp.
Helping people stay warm
Thermocill also sets out to have a positive impact on society. Aside from working with the likes of Wigan Council, the business has created the Thermocill Trust, which will take a percentage of profits from the sale of each device to be held in a trust fund.
All money raised will be used to purchase energy-efficient modular housing and create low energy homes for the homeless in collaboration with social housing organisations and local councils.
The trust will also support entrepreneurs and innovators.
