Active at home

Banner notices

For some of us, we may notice that we're not as mobile as we once were, and our joints and muscles may feel a little stiff.

There are lots of opportunities to be active at home, moving around regularly, even if a little and often will help keep our joints flexible.

Any movement is good, particularly if it makes us feel a little bit warm and makes us breathe a little faster. For almost everyone exercise is safer than not moving!

Our Active at home programmes

Our team of qualified and experienced instructors will support you to improve your wellbeing, mobility, strength and balance with the following programmes that can be adapted to meet your health needs.

Pedal Loan Scheme

We are bringing cycling into people’s homes by introducing a safe and secure way for people to enjoy a bike ride using portable pedals. These portable pedals can be used with the feet or hands to ensure more people are able to participate and the resistance can be altered to suit any individual’s needs.

Home assessments

Our team can offer home assessments for residents where we will support you to improve your confidence and strength and balance so you can access suitable activities when you’re ready.

Make Your Move

From the charities behind We Are Undefeatable, we have 50 DVDs to give out, with each one guiding you through 6 short physical activity sessions to help you get active in a way that works for you.

These videos have been created especially for people with long term health conditions, who may experience common symptoms such as pain, stiffness and fatigue. One of our specialist instructors will get you started with an activity that you can do in your own home, checking in on your progress via phone support.

To take part in Make Your Move, you will be required to participate in an evaluation of the offer. If you don’t have a DVD player and want to give the exercises a go on your own, you can find them on YouTube.

Super 6 exercises

6 simple strength and balance exercises to help you stay steady, increase strength and independence. Complete these exercises at least three times a week to gain the benefits.

How to participate

Stay warm - Providing information about the financial support that older people could access to help them with rising energy costs

Stay safe - Focusing on home safety advice for older people, including fire safety, how to spot and report scams, and what to do if they fall

Stay well - Tips and advice on mental health and wellbeing, eating well and keeping active.
