What is Refugee Week?

Refugee Week usually runs in June every year, and is a UK wide awareness week that celebrates the many contributions that refugees make to society.

It also encourages understanding around some of the reasons people have to leave their home countries and the challenges they may face when seeking safety.

Art workshop for Refugee Week

In Wigan Borough, we wanted to celebrate the achievements of local refugees and the contributions they are making to our towns.

Talented artist Ibukun Baldwin has been working with The Turnpike and children and young people from the Everything Human Rights community organisation in Leigh to create beautiful art based on the theme for Refugee Week, 'We cannot walk alone'.
