Dementia reminiscence

This role requires you to assist session leaders in tasks and activities. It requires you to have an interest in supporting and empathising with people who have been diagnosed with dementia and a desire to see them manage their illness in a positive way.

This opportunity would suit someone who:

  • Has an ability to communicate with older people, enjoy conversations and able to deal with repetitive conversations
  • Is patient, sensitive and caring with the ability to empathise with the experiences of people with dementia
  • You must be trustworthy and reliable
  • Is flexible and able to help on a regular basis
  • Is confident to talk to library staff, volunteers, partners and customers
  • Has a knowledge/experience of dementia or the ability to learn about dementia and it’s impact on people.

Training

The training programme for this role includes:

  • Library induction
  • Customer care
  • Dementia awareness
  • Safeguarding.

We require all volunteers to attend training, which may be delivered in a number of ways including training sessions, work shadowing and through supervision. The training may be offered at a range of venues.

This role may require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
