Switching energy suppliers is straight forward and can save you a lot of money. Many people who've never switched before could save over £300 a year.

Worried or nervous about changing energy providers? Citizens Advice Bureau (external link) can help you to switch hassle free. Just book an appointment (external link) to speak to one of their Energy Advisors.
What information do I need to switch?
You'll need to know your postcode, details of your supplier, current tariff and energy consumption. You should be able to find all the information on your latest bill.
If you have a prepayment meter, you need to know how much you spend over a year, so for example, how much do you spend on gas over summer? How much do you spend on gas over winter? This will then give you an annual spend.
A) Summer = £5 per week (times by 26 weeks = £130)
B) Winter = £25 per week (times by 26 weeks = £650)
C) Add together A & B = £780 annual spend on gas.
What happens when I switch?
Switching is simple!
When you have chosen a new supplier and tariff, you'll be asked to complete an online form which is sent to the new supplier you have chosen.
You will then be given a switching date, and the new supplier will ask for meter readings in order to calculate your bills. The readings will also be passed on to the old supplier and if you are in credit, they will refund your account. If you are behind with payments, they will send a final bill.
Even if you have switched, you have 14 days in which to change your mind.
