Why Wigan?

Wigan Borough is a collection of strong proud towns, historic villages and a wealth of green and open spaces.

Our strong employment rates, outstanding schools and affordable housing make the borough an attractive place to live and work.

The borough is strategically located on road, rail and air networks giving businesses easy access to customers, suppliers and employees.

We have a large population of 324,700 residents and this is forecast to grow to 346,300 residents by 2030.

Our schools and colleges give our children and young people an excellent start with over 90% of schools rated as Good or Outstanding by Ofsted. This is reflected in results with over 62% of pupils achieving Grade 4+ in English and Maths. Our young people want to progress which is demonstrated by the highest level of apprenticeship starts across Greater Manchester.

The borough is home to 12,000 businesses with over 80% of these classed as SMEs. Manufacturing and logistics are key sectors but there is growth in the digital, creative, health, environmental and professional sectors.
