Pleasure / Fun Fairs

Wigan Council have adopted local byelaws for Pleasure / Fun Fairs.

These byelaws are made under Section 75 of the Public Health Act 1961, as amended by the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.

The manager of such a fair must give the Council prior notice of their intention to hold a fair, specifying the dates and the place at which such a fair is to be held. This notice must be in writing, and be submitted at least 5 days prior to the commencement of the fair / event.

The notice can be emailed to Environmental Health Team or sent in writing to the Environmental Health Team, PO Box 100, Wigan, WN1 3DS.

The notice to be given under these byelaws shall be in addition to and not in substitution for any notice required to be given under any other enactment.

These byelaws regulate the opening hours of such fairs, and also include additional requirements / responsibilities for the manager of the fair in relation to:

  • Fire Prevention
  • Safe Ingress and Egress
  • Sanitary Conditions
  • Cleanliness
  • Public Safety

Prior to any event, organisers are also advised to contact Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue for advice.
