Within Wigan Borough there are a number of areas of land designated as Registered Common Land or Village Greens.
As a Commons Registration Authority, we maintain a register showing the extent of these areas as a requirement of the Commons Registration Act 1965.
An Official Search of the Register of Common Land and Village Greens may be made by submitting the appropriate CON29 Optional Enquiry Form to us with the £15 fee.
The registers are available for public inspection on an appointment basis by contacting us, and a map of common land and village greens is available online, with registration details.
The Common Land Registers are divided into 3 sections:
Section 1 - Land details
This gives a description of the land, who it was registered by and date the registration became final.
Section 2 - Rights details
Description of the rights of the land and the name of the person holding the rights.
Section 3 - Ownership
This gives details of owners of the Common Land. However entries held are not conclusive and in many cases ownership details are not known.
An Official Search of the Register of Common Land and Village Greens may be made by submitting the appropriate CON29 Optional Enquiry Form 2016 to Local Land Charges with the current fee of £15.00.
CON29 Optional Enquiry Form 2016 requests can be received and returned electronically via NLIS (National Land Information Service) also via our online local land charges service.
Corrective applications
We will charge the applicant an initial fee of £1,000 to process corrective applications to correct mistakes made by the registration authority or to remove 'buildings' or 'other land' land that was wrongly registered as either common land or town or village green. Should any objection be received to any such application a further fee of £1,000 will be payable to us by the applicant for the additional work that will be necessary to deal with the objection(s).
