Wigan Council receives many requests to light up its buildings to recognise and raise awareness of various important issues.
What buildings or locations can be illuminated:
- Wigan Town Hall
- Leigh Town Hall
- The Face of Wigan (at an extra cost).
Currently, Wigan Town Hall and Leigh Town Hall is illuminated in white every evening from dusk until dawn, with options to use red, white, green, blue, pink, and purple lights. However, the limited colour options mean that events requiring specific colours, such as yellow, orange, or gold, cannot be accommodated.
Additional fees will apply if custom images or stencils are needed for lighting up the building (e.g. for Christmas).
Requests to light up buildings will be considered eligible if they aim to:
- Raise awareness for charities nominated by the current Mayor
- Mark events organised or financially supported by Wigan Council
- Highlight events in the borough that benefit tourism or promotion
- Promote health campaigns linked to public health plans
- Support local charitable, community, or non-profit organisations celebrating significant occasions
- Recognise sporting teams or organisations with notable achievements connected to the borough
- Follow directives from Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Central Government, or the Secretary of State for Cultural, Media and Sport
Requests outside this criteria require approval from the Leader of the Council or the Chief Executive.
Please note:
- Requests do not guarantee that we can light up the specified building or location.
- The lights are limited, so not all colours are available. An alternative may be necessary.
- The lights can only be seen from dusk, so during the summer months, this could be quite late in the evening.
- Requests must be for charity or awareness days, not personal events.
- Requests cannot be for product advertisements or political purposes.
