Wigan Council

Wigan Council offers lots of services, information and advice for young people with disabilities.

Wigan and Leigh People First

Activities and support for people with learning disabilities aged 16+ (‘pub nights for those aged 18+)

Opportunities to meet other people, make friends, have coffee, have fun.

SKILS (SK Independent Living Services)

Opportunities for those aged 18+ with disabilities to improve your life skills and quality of life by getting involved in creative activities.

We have different bases around Wigan Borough and offer opportunities to keep fit, enjoy music, do arts and crafts, get IT skills.

You can also improve your life skills such as cleaning, getting meals ready, travelling, and get information about supported employment and work placements.

One Vision

One Vision offer training in film production skills, arts activities, drama projects, crafts and computer based learning. We aim to help you to increase your confidence and communication skills and get some experience in media production.

Respect Reflex Club Nights

Usually on 2nd Tuesday of every month from 7-10pm at Reflex Nightclub in Wigan.

Active Choices

Fitness for people aged 16+ with learning or physical disabilities including sport, dance, fitness, relaxation, gardening and park activities, cycling and walks.

Whizz-Kidz

Whizz-Kidz is a national charity that helps young people with disabilities get the right mobility equipment to fit your young life. The charity also provides opportunities to meet other young people, have fun, learn new skills and get involved in campaigns and work placement opportunities so you can look forward to a bright future.

National Autistic Society

Get more information about Autism and Asperger Syndrome. Provides advice to understand the conditions and tips on how to make life easier and campaigns for a better world for people with autism.

A door to door accessible minibus service for people of all ages who find it difficult to use ordinary public transport.

Hop, Skip and Jump, Wigan

Hop, Skip and Jump, Wigan, is an activity centre for children and young people with disabilities. It’s just next to Wigan Youth Zone in Wigan town centre.

Junior Club (for young people aged 5-12) is every Tuesday, 4pm-7.30pm

Senior Club (for young people aged 13-18) is every Wednesday, 4pm-7.30pm

Activities at the centre include sports sessions, arts and crafts, baking, cooking, gardening, life skills, games and much more.

You can tell us what sorts of activities you would like to do and we’ll do our best to arrange it!

If you wish to go along to Wigan Youth Zone we can support you to do this.

Cost is £10 per session.

Tuck shop available but bring a packed lunch if you want to come along for the whole session.

H.O.P.E

Soft play area, sensory play, arts and crafts for children and young people with autism. Bring your parents, carers and brothers and sisters too!

Every third Saturday in the month throughout 2016 (except December), 1.30-3pm.

Get to know your rights

Children and young people have been working with the NHS and the National Children’s Bureau to create a website to help you know what your rights are when using NHS Services.

Fusion Radio and Club Nights

Opportunity to be part of Leigh’s community radio station for anyone with a disability.

Plus regular club nights in Leigh for anyone with a disability aged 18 or over.

Rebound Therapy

Sessions

for children and young people aged 5 – 19 years with a learning, physical, sensory disability, social/behavioural difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions, mental health conditions. Sessions are 1-1 on a trampoline with a qualified instructor working through a range of activities from stretching/relaxation through to recreational trampoline activities.
