Greater Manchester water safety strategic partnership
The Greater Manchester water safety strategic partnership was established in response to the risk of drowning in the region.
The partnership is made up of stakeholders from all ten of Greater Manchester’s local authorities, emergency services and landowners, as well as national water safety experts.
Each borough in Greater Manchester has their own water safety partnership, which feeds into the Greater Manchester Water Safety Strategic Partnership.
Wigan’s partnership is made up of representatives from a range of organisations:
- Wigan Council
- Canal and River Trust
- Lancashire Wildlife Trust
- Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue
- Northwest Ambulance Service NHS Trust
- Wigan Athletic
- Greater Manchester Police
Our strategy
The partnerships aim is to reduce the number of drowning incidents in Greater Manchester, and it has set out a strategic plan to establish a consistent approach and structure across all ten boroughs.
Our key aims are to:
- Reduce the number of drownings in Greater Manchester.
- Ensure residents and visitors are safe around water when they are in Greater Manchester.
- Ensure Greater Manchester residents are safe around water wherever they are.
- Increase awareness of the risks of open water.
- Help people enjoy water related activity in a safe manner.
