Clair's story
"I have been a carer for around 7 years. I was looking to add to my own personal growth and passion for supporting others, and as a support worker for Wigan Council, Shared Lives was a natural pathway for me. My Douglas stole my heart ever since we first met.
He stays four hights a month, with some extra days when needed. Our home is his home now, in fact he never wants to leave. He has blossomed as a person and grown in confidence. We have supported him in developing his skills and knowledge, and his health has improved too. As a family we smile the whole time, and we are so blessed to have him with us. I can’t imagine our lives without him.
The support from the service is wonderful, every message is answered efficiently, and our Shared Lives officer is a constant support, going above and beyond her role."
Ronnie and Helen's story
"We enjoy being Shared Lives Carers, especially taking people out to various places, which they wouldn’t be able to do on their own. Seeing how happy it makes them and being there to support them in fulfilling their aspirations means a lot to us.
We would definitely recommend becoming a carer as it’s such a rewarding experience."
