Free gym membership

Returning members of the armed forces, and those who have left the services in the last 12 months, can get:

  • A complimentary 12 month membership of our leisure centres - giving free access to gyms, classes and swimming when you apply for a free Be Well card.

Please note: You will need a valid ID card or discharge paper to show the date you have left the forces.

For more information about armed forces membership contact the Be Well team with the following information:

  • Full name
  • Address (including postcode)
  • Armed Forces status e.g. serving member of the Royal Navy, Royal Marine, British Army, Royal Air Force or veteran (if you have left the British Armed Forces in the past 12 months).

Family holiday breaks

The Royal British Legion provides families of serving and ex-service personnel the chance to take a break and get away from the stresses and strains of everyday life. They have holidays between springtime and the October school half-term each year and aim to give families a week of fun, activities, exciting day-trips and memorable experiences, all in traditional British seaside resorts like Bridlington, Southport, Portrush and Weston-Super-Mare.

The Calvert Trust has three outdoor centres in Exmoor, on Kielder Water and in the Lake District and they offer serving, reserve and veteran armed forces families with a disabled service person, partner or child in the family, weekend breaks. The break is available to people of all abilities, including: physical or learning disabilities, ADHD, autism and challenging behaviour, visual or hearing impairment and post-traumatic stress disorder.
