Before requesting any additional bins you will need to have a waste audit.
You should only really need an additional bin if you are:
- A large family of 6 or above
- Have a number of children still using nappies
- Generate a large amount of medical waste (non-hazardous)
- Have exceptional circumstances and can demonstrate you are already separating recyclable waste into the correct bins.
You must already use all three recycling bins and a food waste caddy before you can request a waste audit.
Are you wanting an audit because of the 3 weekly bin collection?
If you are concerned about the 3 weekly bin collection changes happening in September, you should wait until you have had a chance to see how you manage with the changes before requesting an audit.
Additional bins
You will need to request a waste audit if you want to:
- Request an additional green or black bin - Additional bins will only be a smaller size
- Request an additional brown or blue bin - Checks will be made and you will receive a phone call advising if a bin will automatically be issued or if an audit will need to take place. Additional bins will only be a smaller size.
Exchanging a bin
You will not need an audit if you are just exchanging a bin for a larger or smaller size.
We aim to do this within 10 working days but you will need to ensure your bin is accessible for us to exchange it during that time.
What is a waste audit?
Before we can give you an additional bin we will come to check your bins to make sure that you are recycling everything you possibly can.
Once you have requested a waste audit we will contact you within 10 working days to arrange the appointment.
On the lead up to the waste audit appointment you will be given a few important instructions which will allow us to see a true reflection of the extra waste you have not been able to put in your bin.
The audits are carried out the day before your usual bin collection day. You will need to make sure that all your bins are accessible between 9am and 5pm. There is no need for you to be present (if you don’t wish to be) but we will need to have your contact details to give you the results once it has been completed.
