Etherstone Day Centre is a dementia friendly, welcoming and community minded base near the centre of Leigh in the middle of a thriving community.
We offer a service to people aged 50 plus who have a diagnosis of dementia or require support with everyday living skills.
Our building is a single storey, safe and secure environment and is set within a secluded garden space just off the main road in Pennington Leigh.
We recognise that dementia and associated issues are not necessarily an elderly condition. We aim to step away from the old ideals around traditional day services and create a hub that is vibrant and inviting to young and elderly and all personalities.
What does our day centre provide?
Our primary goal at Etherstone is to provide a therapeutic activity programme that is not only inviting, stimulating and fun but also adheres to guidance from renowned organisations such as the Alzheimer’s society
The staff team are more than employees they are friends and will support you or your loved ones with any care needs required, ensuring that individual needs are met. They have vast experience of working alongside individuals with dementia or other health conditions and will offer high quality support with empathy. The staff team are fully trained and dedicated in meeting any support needs, goals or aspirations. They are able to provide personal care support along with medication support.
Our food menu is inviting but has purpose, we aim to provide a balanced diet that provokes involvement and memories whilst helping to maintain health and wellbeing. We aim to make our lunch time an experience that customers can participate in as much or little as they choose, from the planning, preparation or simply choosing the background music.
We also actively look for what is going on in the local community that we can access or welcome into the centre, and we encourage continued connections with young people in schools and colleges, the veteran’s society and other local charities.
Activities on offer
Our activity programme is not only centre based but also links in with the local community. We listen to our customers and carers to discover what their hobbies, interests and aspirations are and try to meet them wherever possible
Using technology, local resources, and additional services, we research and aspire to meet goals and regain lost motivation and zest for life. Some of the many things we do include:
- Fit and funky exercise - promoting health and wellbeing whilst encouraging interaction, movement, and fun
- Musical and movie memorable mornings - promoting memories through singing, dancing, and fun
- Pampered princesses / pruned prince’s - personal grooming and chill time whilst taking the opportunity to discuss men’s and women’s health topics
- Chatter zone lounge and read - making stories, social media, and poetry fun
- Creative crafts - anything goes, indoors and outdoors, from knitting to welding, if you have an interest in a subject, we will give it a go
- Tastetastic baking - using smell and memories to let the imagination run free and create past experiences
- Day-to-day tasks - we want customers to feel like it's their 'Home from home', so we encourage them to get involved in as many ways as possible, from opening in a morning and security checks at the end of the day to cooking, cleaning and laundry. Even working in the office - involvement is welcomed.
We want to help people regain feelings of self-worth and involvement, so any skills, talents, or hobbies no matter how small will be utilised and valued.
How much does it cost?
