Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)

Getting vaccinated is one of the most important things we can do to protect ourselves, our children, and the community, against becoming seriously unwell. On this webpage you can find out more information about the current MMR vaccination opportunities within the Borough.

What is the MMR Vaccine?

The MMR vaccine is a vaccine against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella.

Babies and young children are given 2 doses of the MMR vaccine as part of the NHS vaccination schedule (external link). They are given a dose at 1 year old, and at 3 years 4 months old.

There’s no age limit on catch up doses and adults can access them too if you think you might have missed out on a dose in the past.

Where can you get the Vaccine?

There are a number of places in Wigan where you can get the vaccine, including your GP. The information below will help you identify the most appropriate place for you or your child.

GP

Any child aged over 12 months of age and any adult can access MMR vaccines from their GP surgery. If you are unsure if you or your child are up to date, check your child’s red book or GP records and make an appointment to catch up on any missed doses.

Pharmacies

Anyone aged five and over can access an MMR vaccination at Hollowood Chemists, 11 Mesnes Street, Wigan, WN1 1QP.

No appointment is needed, but there may be a wait for the pharmacist to be available. View more information where MMR is available in pharmacies (external link).
