Wigan Borough is two thirds green space and there are a wide range of activities and facilities available within our parks and green spaces to help you get active.
Our local leisure centres and swimming pools also offer a range of activities to suit all abilities. If you would like to get involved with a local sports club there are plenty to choose from in Wigan.

We have a wide range of resources to support you through weight loss and weight maintenance. Our resources include information on:

- Calories and energy balance
- Diabetes
- Meal planning and shopping tips

What support is available?
We can tailor a weight loss approach to suit you, working around childcare, work commitments, heath conditions or any other concerns you may have. We have specialists in the NHS, heath advisors and exercise professionals who can support you and your family on your journey.
Following a thorough individual consultation, we can provide support on a 1-1 or group basis, either digitally from home, in the community, from leisure centres or in a clinical setting. There really is an option for everyone with support from Be Well, Wigan Athletic Community Trust, Wigan Warriors Foundation and Slimming World.
We understand that weight loss is not as simple as it may sound and you will be supported in a range of ways tailored for you, including:
- Understanding nutrition and healthy eating advice
- Becoming more physically active
- Support with budgeting and shopping
- Support if feeling stressed, anxious or lacking confidence
- Reducing or stopping alcohol
- Support in managing a health condition such as Diabetes, High Blood Pressure or High Cholesterol
- Reducing or stopping smoking
- and more, just let us know what support you need.
There are a range of free and low cost opportunities and you will be supported to continue long term with ongoing support available for up to 12-24 months.
Who is eligible for support?
If you have a BMI over 25 (calculate your BMI here), are over 18, live, work or are registered to a GP in the Wigan borough, you can access support.
