Where I work: Wigan Council, Adult Social Care, The Zone, Robin Park

What do I do in my role?

I manage a team who support young people and adults with complex health needs, this includes people with Learning Disability and/or Autism.

What’s my career journey?

I started as an apprentice at Wigan Council and progressed through various roles in before becoming Engagement Lead in Adult Social Care. My job changed during the pandemic, and I got the opportunity to work in a centre for people with complex health needs, I loved it so much that I got a permanent role managing the centre.

What’s the best thing about my job?

Supporting people to progress is what I love about my role. This can be either a member of staff or a customer. Having a positive impact on someone’s life is the ultimate reward and that’s why I do what I do.

What do I want to do next?

In recent years I have really enjoyed delivering training so ideally, I would love to combine my current role with a training role too.

My advice if you want to do what I do

Volunteering is a great way to gain some experience of working with people with complex health needs and it’s also really rewarding, I volunteered at Wigan Youth Zone which was a great experience for me.
