Hello, I’m Kirsty
My Role: Social Care Officer
Where I work: Wigan Council, Adult Social Care
What do I do in my role?
I assess the needs of vulnerable adults within the Wigan borough in line with The Care Act 2014 and implement support to enable them to live a happy and fulfilling life.
What’s my career journey?
I worked in a solicitors when I left school as a secretary.
I then volunteered for a local children’s centre which then made me realise I wanted a career in Health and Social Care.
I applied for a job with Wigan Council and I am now completing my degree apprenticeship to become a Social Worker.
What’s the best thing about my job?
Meeting different people daily and promoting their independence.
My top skills
I’m a good listener and able to adapt to different situations.
What do I want to do next?
I am due to qualify as a Social Worker in 2026. There are then many routes I could take to progress my career.
I currently work with Adults but my qualification will allow me to also work in Children’s Services, so I may do that at a later stage.
