Hello, I’m Lindsey

My Role: Advanced Practitioner, Social Worker

Where I work: Wigan Council, Transfer of care from hospital team.

What do I do in my role?

I supervise Social Workers within the team supporting them to work with adults, carers and their families to empower and promote independence by building on the strengths and assets of individuals and communities, enabling them to live the best life they can.

What’s my career journey?

I started work at Wigan Council in 2000, as a home care clerk and receptionist. In 2002, I became a review officer. I started my Social Work degree and qualified as a Social Worker in November 2015, I then went on to be a best interest assessor, practice educator and older person lead and advanced practitioner.

What’s the best thing about my job?

It’s a privilege to be allowed into people’s lives and to share their journeys. I have heard so many amazing life stories and seen so many wonderful outcomes. To gain their trust and be able to make a difference is truly rewarding.

What do I want to do next?

I want to work with the ‘Transfer of Care’ team who support people to leave hospital and hopefully go home or to their best place to make sure that people get the right support, at the right time from the right person.

My advice if you want to do what I do

  • Get your Maths and English GSCE or equivalent
  • Gain experience working with people
  • Undertake qualifications in Health and Social Care
  • Apply for a Social Care Officer role.
