Main roles and responsibilities of the Lead Member
- To support the delivery of the Deal 2030 priorities and pledges in the Wigan Council Recovery Plan
- To support our Community Wealth Building approach including supporting our veterans to access good, stable employment opportunities
- To support the delivery of our Climate Change Strategy by promoting a fairer and more sustainable local economy
- To support our veterans and members of the armed forces across the borough with training and education to provide them with better life chances
- To support the delivery of health and wellbeing services for our veterans and armed forces members
- To be a champion for our veterans and armed forces across the borough.
Priorities for 2023/2024
- Implementation of the key priorities set out in our Deal 2030 - Our Place, Our People, Our Future
- Engage with businesses, schools and other partners to grow support for the Community Covenant
- Delivery of our successful programme of community Armed Forces commemoration and celebration events, including Remembrance Sunday services and parades, and Armed Forces Day
- Strategic input into the development and delivery of a joined-up strategy for our work with veterans
- Along with the Deputy Leader, advocate for the needs of veterans and the armed forces to be considered when planning and delivering services
- Supporting the ongoing operational effectiveness and delivery of services to the Armed Forces Community
- Spearhead Wigan’s contribution to the GM Armed Forces support plan.
