Alison Rushton

Alison RushtonVice Principal Employment and Skills Wigan and Leigh College.

Alison has around 40 years of experience in public sector organisations including 27 years in further education colleges. She has served on a number of boards including schools and charitable trusts.

Alison is a passionate advocate for the transformative impact of education on communities and families; she joined Wigan and Leigh College in June 2021 to lead the college’s work in apprenticeships, adult learning and skills.

Part of Alison’s responsibility includes the Leigh Adult Learning Centre, which has recently been developed to incorporate a dedicated estate for Allied Health, Social Care and Counselling. Working with a range of partners including the borough council, the Department for Work and Pensions and the voluntary sector, Alison drives effective partnerships and innovative practice in pursuit of a strong and accessible skills offer for the residents of Leigh.

Outside of work, Alison has four children and two grandchildren who keep her busy, but she does find time for her hobbies of painting, cooking and gardening.
